Getting Started with HTML E-mail
HTML email seems tricky for the everyday user, but if you want to impress your future boss, its a good way to contact him the first time. No it doesn’t cost money, and no you don’t have to know html, although it helps.
Here are two free services that you can use to send html emails:
Just sign up, create a list to send to, and either upload an html template, or use the wysiwyg editor to do it online. The best thing, aside from looking extremely professional, is that you can track your messages to see who has opened them. If you want, create a campaign for each job that you apply for and you can see exactly what time your new boss opened your mail, and even if he or she checked out the links you made to your linkedin, twitter or facebook profiles. Quite handy. In my job inquiries I even link to a google search with my prominent online moniker, as my real name is just too common to produce satisfactory results.
Next Level HTML E-mail
If you really start getting into it, you can check out these paid services which really let you expand on your html e-mailing. These are powerful tools for e-commerce and handling your professional e-mail network, and they provide free trials to get you started. Careful though, like fine wine, once you get used to the good stuff, you can’t go back to the bottom shelf.
